We provide Secondary Surgery as part of our commitment to early intervention for young people. Within the team we have a dedicated Outreach Worker who runs these and provides solution focused mentoring, skills and strategies & signposting to additional support for a variety of issues.
Targeted support for young people is offered through 1:1 sessions once or twice a week when challenging behaviour is affecting their learning to a greater extent. We might see a child more often if they are at risk of permanent exclusion, experiencing a traumatic event or transitional event such as a managed move. Occasionally it is appropriate to work with very small groups on challenging behaviour issues.
We can also deliver short interventions such as a return from exclusion programme or a managed move programme. These are two hour sessions which very quickly identify any immediate needs or concerns to ensure appropriate support is provided in school.
At the start of year 7, we work with all our secondary schools to support small groups of young people who have been identified as needing additional intervention during their move to secondary. Sometimes young people will be receiving this five week programme of support as a continuation of the year 6 interventions which they would have had at their primary school.
