Active Leisure, Physical Education and Sport
All students are offered and encouraged to participate in some form of physical activity. Our curriculum is constantly adapting and developing to meet the needs of our students and every effort is made to develop the strengths and interests of individuals.
All students will on occasions have the opportunity to take part in offsite activities such as high ropes, caving, climbing and sailing. These may form part of the curriculum during Active Leisure or be offered as a Reward Trip. They aim to instil confidence in our students and give them the opportunity to broaden their experiences
Key Stage 4 students are offered the chance to take up a BTEC qualification in Sport. This qualification is ideally suited to students who enjoy sport and may wish to pursue it in the future.
The course involves practical experience of activities such as table tennis, basketball, badminton. The BTEC Level 2 Sports Award is assessed through one exam unit, one practical unit and two theoretical units. These explore the effect that exercise has on the body and gives students the opportunity to develop sports leadership skills in a practical setting. Students will be assessed in a number of different ways; presentations, written reports, video evidence. In addition to this AQA unit awards are offered in a range of different activities such as climbing and dance.
